Delta 2011

Delta 2011 is over. It was a great trip.
Last year I had been in a submissive mindset and had worn a chastity device for the duration of the event. This year I decided to attend as primarily a top. I spent time planning out the styles of scenes.  I decided to try and do a different style of bondage each of the days at delta. One piece of equipment was too large to bring with us in checked luggage, so was mailed ahead. After the shipment was misdirected by UPS and lost by FedEx, I was forced to plan other scenes.

Packing in general was more difficult for this trip.  One of the themes that I was trying for was using equipment that everybody already owns in new and exciting ways. But much of it is either bulky or heavy, and so I over packed.  (100lbs more luggage than the previous year)

Along with others I quickly learned to use a piece of rolling luggage for my gear. This was both a good way of transporting the gear around the camp, but allowed a compact way of putting it away when not playing. Over the weekend it became socially acceptable to store gear bags out of the way in the main dungeons.

The Delta run uses a system of dance cards for planning play with others.  It is a simple and effective way of setting expectations that we will be accountable for showing up at play.  It also normalizes the idea that we will be playing with more than one person during the weekend.

At first I had some trouble getting people on my dance card.  I was still a little shy about making play-dates without knowing  the other person. soundsFun and I did a rope suspension early the first night. I think we got extra credibility for not using the winch.
That first night I bottomed for a good flogging by master Seth.

After people saw soundsFun and me playing, My calendar started filling up. A number of people that I desperately wanted to play with asked for play. I made a rookie mistake of over-scheduling. I scheduled four boys for the second evening and four boys for the third day. A lot of diet-coke allowed me to keep going through these long periods of activity. The third day I even remembered ahead of time to stage non-alcoholic beer in the upper dungeon cooler for the centering feeling that it gives me before and during scenes (there was extra non-alcoholic beer left over at the end of the weekend, so I don't feel that my consumption impacted the friends of Bill W.)

Negotiation was a bit more abbreviated at Delta. As in other public dungeons, many of the basic questions are answered by the people being physically present at the event in the first place. The request of a specific type of scene was generally assumed as evidence that they knew what the scene involved.

I had some wonderful successes. My tickling of SoundFun's feet during the full suspension the first night got all sorts of good attention.
I was really proud of a suspension of a mohawked newbie.
My full chain suspension on a tall muscular military boy in a camo jockstrap was the highlight of my bondage.
I did some beautiful detail work in a suspended hogtie of an experienced rope bottom.
I thought that my flogging of a neurologist was competent. As a standing rope partial suspension it was appreciated in other ways.
Body contact during two electro scenes made them more personal.
The horizontal sleep sack suspension happened during other popular events (including the rubber slip-and-slide), and so was more private and intimate. But felt an amazing achievement.
I believe I earned a camp reputation of performing competent bondage. I was one of the only people performing rope suspensions.

There were less successful moments. I performed a gear and chain scene against wooden ladder backed equipment. The equipment had connection points that I wasn't familiar with. I could have done a better job of managing the non-structural lines.  This was the perfect setup for electro and violet wand, and I should have been prepared for their use. It was a good scene that by better planning I could have made great.

The partial suspension for flogging worked less well for a less flexible boy. I can and will find a new knot strategy for this. I could have managed the lines better for quick release if I had better attach points or a couple extra loops of strong material. To overcome the resulting safety concerns I staged the safety shears at arms reach and prepared emotionally to quickly cut the ropes in case of issue.

I had to deal with personal issues. I found that it was quite difficult for me to be present and uninvolved in soundsFun's scenes. This is partly the over-protective boyfriend issue.  When he is screaming in pain it is difficult for me to not come to his defense. While he was receiving an intense flogging followed by single-tailing I had to concentrate hard to focus on the unrelated partial and full suspensions that I was performing. But I knew that the single-tailing was something that he had wanted, and needed, and had arranged long ahead of time, and was thanking the Dom between strokes.
I had (and still have) difficulty looking at the marks on his back from that event.

I need to come up with a better way of positioning the bottom while tying the rope corset ties for some of the webbing suspension work.

I need to better consider what follow-up activities to do while the bottom is in bondage. While I don't think that most people noticed, this is a long-standing problem for me.

I should have found a rope scene to act as bottom for.  I wished I had topped one final gear bondage partial suspension.

My hours of communal work was performed wandering the camp performing play supervision. In the orange dungeon monitor vest I was not supposed to interrupt safe scenes.  This made the hottest inverted suspension more difficult to watch without breaking the scene.   I found that if I was rubbing my dick through my shorts with the top button unbuttoned that people understood that I was not criticising their work.

I really look forward to attending Delta 2012 next year.
