The rope bondage books start with traditional Japanese ties. These were designed for traditional Japanese women. The median weight of a Japanese woman is 114lbs and the average height of a Japanese woman is 5'3". The people that I tie up are not average Japanese women. (I actually have never tied up a woman. I probably need to do that sometime.)
I met D at a 4th of July pool party around 2002 at the home of Jim Ray. That was long before either of us was kinky.
I saw him again at one of the bondage lessons taught by Max at CSPC.
He came over, and asked to be suspended. The child's pose came immediately to mind.
Adjustments needed to be made for size. The version of the child's pose that I had performed before relies on a bit of flexibility to bring the knees closer to the chest, bringing support underneath the center of mass. I had to add a chest strap so that he would be balanced.
I don't think that i could have done this suspension with traditional hemp rope. A bigger boy requires many more passes of rope for comfort. Even with much wider webbing I had to tie a large number of passes. The seven rope corsets necessary for the single column webbing ties take a long time, and are held in place by upward tension.
This worked quite well.
D came back.
I heard Midori speak about the classic Tsuri Shibari partial suspension. But I had never tried it on my own. It seemed the perfect opportunity.
The hip harness is a little more difficult to tie on a big boy. Rope is actually drawn against the inside of the thighs during the tie. Larger thighs closer together make the rope more difficult to pull.
The variant of the taut line hitch that Max teaches relies on static friction to hold, and there was some movement during one of my first vertical lines, requiring a re-tie.
D continued giggling.
D brings such good energy that he's really fun to play with. I am proud of this work.
